The New York Times reports the camera used to stream the shootings was worn by the gunman as he attacked the Al Noor Mosque.

Facebook is being questioned for allowing the livestreaming of a murderer who killed 49 innocent people in two mosques in New Zealand earlier today.

Bush confirmed that a further 40 people were injured and taken to hospital in what is now the worst ever mass shooting in New Zealand history.

"I saw dead people everywhere".

The White House also issued a statement, saying the USA strongly condemns the attack and stands in solidarity with the people of New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison told reporters that one suspect of the deadly twin shootings is an Australian citizen.

A man who claimed responsibility for the shootings left a 74-page anti-immigrant manifesto in which he explained who he was and his reasoning for his actions.

YouTuber PewDiePie was evidently praised by the alleged gunman, and the YouTube personality, Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, posted a statement to Twitter condemning the attacks. "There were three in the hallway, at the door leading into the mosque, and people inside the mosque", he said.

No details were immediately available. Another man said he hid under a bench till the shooting stopped.

Social media giants Facebook, Twitter, Google on Friday faced scrutiny over extremist content on their platforms after video footage of mass shootings in New Zealand was live streamed and widely shared online.

Police have urged people nearby to stay indoors.
