Those are Finnish firm Nokia, South Korean outfit Samsung, Chinese firm Huawei, Swedish corporation Ericsson, and American outfit Cisco.

Germany announced March 7 that it wouldn't ban any company from bidding on 5G contracts.

The US has warned Germany that it would limit its intelligence sharing with the countries that allow Chinese tech giant Huawei to participate in its 5G communications network. The matter stems from concerns in the U.S. that Huawei could be used by the Chinese government for espionage purposes, though the mobile company has repeatedly denied the claims.

USA officials declined to say whether other countries have received or would receive similar warnings.

The locus of the US's - and Australia's - concern is the potential threat of Huawei sharing consumer's private data with the Chinese government.

The United States on Monday warned Germany that sensitive communications could be compromised if "untrusted vendors" were used within its 5G telecom infrastructure, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Nvidia Wins Mellanox Stakes for $6.9 Billion
With the acquisition, the of Nvidia and Mellanox will have "every major cloud service provider and computer maker" as a customer. Both Bloomberg and Reuters write that Nvidia will hand over the huge sum-the most it's ever paid for a purchase-later today.

"A US embassy spokesman told NPR in a statement that he would not comment on the contents of the letter", NPR's Joanna Kakissis reports from Munich.

"Because 5G networks are largely software-defined, updates pushed to the network by the manufacturer can radically change how they operate", NSC spokesman Garrett Marquis told the paper.

The US and several other Western nations, fearful of the security risks posed by the company closely tied to the Chinese government, have shut Huawei out of tenders for the development of the newest 5G infrastructure.

Along with worries about network security, USA prosecutors have charged Huawei and its chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, over alleged Iran sanctions violations, and Beijing and Washington are trying to settle a tariff war affecting a wide range of goods. But suspicions have increased enough that the company's founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei, tried to quash them earlier this year, when he said, "No law requires any company in China to install mandatory backdoors".

The US is going too far.
