Two famous Hollywood actresses, Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman, were charged in a ma court Tuesday along with more than 50 others for their alleged roles in an elaborate scam involving college admissions.

Federal authorities have charged college coaches and others in a sweeping admissions bribery case in federal court.

U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling said via a live news conference "there can be no separate college admission system for the wealthy and there will not be a separate criminal justice system either".

Those arrested include two SAT/ACT administrators, one exam proctor, nine coaches at elite schools, one college administrator and 33 parents according to Andrew Lelling, the US Attorney for MA. Dozens, including Huffman, were arrested by midday.

The scam, said prosecutors, arranged for children to be recruited as athletes, regardless of their athletic abilities. There is documentation showing that those who have been indicted in the scandal paid up to $6 million to some of the best colleges in the States.

"For every student admitted through fraud an honest, genuinely talented student was rejected", he added.

Athletic coaches from Yale, Stanford, USC, Wake Forest, and Georgetown (among others) are also implicated, per the documents, as well as parents and exam administrators.

One of the cooperating witnesses in the scheme was Rudy Meredith, the head coach of the women's soccer team at Yale.

Carol's personality isn't much better, as she slips into some ill-defined space between irreverent wisecracker and noble warrior. Carol Danvers should be more interesting and her emergence as the Universe's most powerful superhero should be more fun .

Boston's U.S. attorney Andrew Lelling warned that the investigation is ongoing and others could be charged.

The colleges themselves are not targets, the prosecutor said.

No students were charged.

Officials said most students involved were unaware of the scheme.

Deadline is also reporting the organization also tried to make contacts with coaches to admit the students as athletes, even if the students were not even athletes. That, in turn, boosted the students' chances of admission.

The ringleader of the scheme was named as William Singer, owner of Key Worldwide Foundation and a company called Edge College & Career Network. He is expected to plead guilty in federal court Tuesday.

Her husband, actor William H. Macy, has not been charged, though an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent stated in an affidavit that he was in the room when Huffman first heard the pitch from a scam insider. The couple allegedly agreed to the plan. Representatives for Loughlin and Huffman did not immediately return requests for comment.

This story has been corrected to reflect Loughlin had not been arrested.
