  • President Donald Trump welcomes 2018 NCAA FCS College Football Champions The North Dakota State Bison to the White House in Washington Monday

President Donald Trump speaks behind stacks of McDonald's hamburgers, Chick-fil-A sandwiches and other fast food as he welcomes athletes to the White House.

It was definitely a defining - and dividing - moment for Trump, who was able to turn it into a left versus right debate on serving fast food to college champs.

Praising the player, Trump said he had "the look" of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who has a well-documented friendship with the president.

Addressing how he had offered up a similar meal to the Tigers during their visit in January, which occurred during the government shutdown, Trump remarked, "We like American companies". Trump called them a tremendously talented team.

Earlier this year, the President personally paid for a fast food spread for the Clemson University football team, citing the government shutdown as justification for a feast he described at the time as "great American food".

The boxes consisted of Big Macs from McDonald's and Chick-Fil-A food, according to pool reporter Laura Figueroa.

The president is a noted fan of unhealthy comfort food, defying doctors' orders to lose weight and also boasting about how little exercise he does.

"We addressed [politics]", Coach Matt Entz told the Grand Forks Herald.
