Six birdies on the back nine were not enough for Rory McIlroy to get close to Dustin Johnson, who won the WGC-Mexico Championship by five shots.

Rory McIlroy finished in second and tried to put a little pressure on Johnson.

The American claimed a five-shot victory at Club de Golf Chapultepec on Sunday, holding off the final-round challenge of Rory McIlroy.

Tiger Woods, playing competitively in Mexico this week for the first time, managed a 69 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 10th at 8 under along with Joost Luiten (64) of the Netherlands, Keegan Bradley (65), and David Lipsky (69).

Defending champion Mickelson, who opened with a 79, rolled in a 12-foot birdied putt at his final hole for a 68 and a level par final total.

The trio of Sergio Garcia, Patrick Cantlay and Cameron Smith were a shot further back, while Justin Thomas' round of the day 62 placed him in solo 9th.

"I say the last three birdies are a big thing for me". I was really telling myself just (to) be patient, do (my) best at the time.

Spike Lee Wins His First Competitive Oscar
And again, not one other screenwriter who shared the award with Lee had a chance to speak. There was a lot of joy to be had onstage at the 2019 Oscars, but Spike Lee and Samuel L.

I'll take a double of whatever the lady was drinking who picked up McIlroy's moving ball on the fourth hole.

"It clicked. I hit it really well this week", Johnson said. "But when DJ's got a four-shot lead and goes out and shoots 5 under, he's not going to lose". The strength-of-field regulation requires players to add an event to their schedules that they haven't played in four years if they didn't play at least 25 events the previous season.

McIlroy got hot on the backside, making six birdies in a seven-hole stretch before closing with another bogey on the par-four 18th. "If I know I'm hitting it well and driving it good, it's going to give me a lot of confidence".

"Some weeks you play well, and someone just plays better".

Whether or not Johnson exaggerated his stance is debateable but the free drop gave the American a shot to the green, and he took advantage, finding the surface from 160 yards before two-putting from 52 feet for par. I've played well. I've done what I've wanted to do and needed to do. Not a bad little run.

It was Dustin Johnson's day at the PGA Tour's WGC-Mexico Championship on Monday (NZT) as New Zealander Ryan Fox's hectic travel schedule finally caught up with him. He's among the four players tied for ninth at 207, 10 shots off Johnson's lead. He started the day on the back nine at 16 shots behind Johnson and missed a 14-foot birdie to fall one short of the course record, which was set by Thomas in the last year's third round.

Johnson is just the 38th player to win 20 times on Tour, and the first since Davis Love III accomplished the feat in 2008.
