The Republican Study Committee pointed out the dichotomy Thursday, shortly after the New York Democrat launched her sweeping environmental plan aimed at achieving zero-net greenhouse-gas emissions in 10 years.

The freshman lawmaker and veteran Sen.

Ben Domenech of the Federalist actually wrote a list of ten "most insane" points from the GND, including the elimination of all internal combustion engines, including cars and airplanes ("Good luck Hawaii!"), and refurbishing every single building in the US.

At least six senators running for president or considering White House bids backed the Green New Deal put forth by freshman Rep. She said she wants to hear from a newly established select committee on climate change, which will consider options not named in the Green New Deal. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of NY and veteran Sen.

"The Green New Deal fully tackles the existential threat posed by climate change by presenting a comprehensive, 10-year plan that is as big as the problem it hopes to solve while creating a new era of shared prosperity", according to a summary of the resolution released by the politicians on Thursday.

Markey, a veteran Congressman from MA, introduced sweeping climate change legislation a decade ago, which passed in the House but was blocked in the Senate.

A joint resolution drafted by Ocasio-Cortez and Markey sets a goal to meet "100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable and zero-emission energy sources", including dramatic increases in wind and solar power.

You can now unsend your Facebook messages if you're quick enough
RANDI Zuckerberg was brought in by her brother to work at Facebook in 2004 when the fledgling start-up had just 50 employees. How to unsend a message? But you will have to be quick as there is only a 10-minute window to delete the unwanted message.

Even so, the Green New Deal is more ambitious than the Clean Power Plan proposed by former President Barack Obama to impose emissions limits on coal-fired power plants.

"This is one of the most urgent moral issues and crises that we have in America right now", Ocasio-Cortez said during a rally outside the Capitol building. Will all of the expertise that goes into a Green New Deal eventually include proofreaders?

The proposal has no chance of gaining support in the Republican-controlled Senate, let alone being signed into law by President Donald Trump, but has become a rallying cry among some liberals and a lightning rod among conservatives. Pelosi said she invited Ocasio-Cortez to join the panel but she declined.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow asked Ocasio-Cortez to respond to a primetime address President Donald Trump gave last month about the situation at the US southern border, prompting her to castigate the president for requesting funding for ICE. The long and short of it: we have a very limited amount of time to slow global warming, for which the USA has "historically been responsible for a disproportionate amount of greenhouse gas emissions".

While focusing on renewable energy, Ocasio-Cortez said the plan would include existing nuclear power plants but block new nuclear plants.

Asked how the plan would be paid for, Ocasio-Cortez said it would be "the same way we paid for the original New Deal, World War II, the bank bailouts, tax cuts for the rich and decades of war - with public money appropriated by Congress". "There is also space for the government to take an equity stake in projects to get a return on investment".
