Another Democrat urges Schultz not to run

  • US President Donald Trump speaks in the Rose Garden of the White House

The president said he watched Schultz talk about a possible run in his CBS 60 Minutes interview on Sunday night.

"I can't think of anything that is a more quintessential expression of our democracy than providing the American people with a choice that doesn't have to be binary between the Republican and the Democrat", Schultz said.

Throughout the interview, Schultz took direct shots at President Donald Trump - saying "this president is not qualified to be the president" - but also at the Democratic party, even though he is a lifelong Democrat.

"I've become bored with President Trump and his tweets", Schultz responded.

I'm a New Yorker, and New Yorkers know a con when we see one!

Schultz also used his 60 Minutes appearance to talk about his new book, "From the Ground Up".

Taking opposition to Schultz one step further, a host of prominent left-wing activists in the anti-Trump #Resistance crowd proposed to boycott the coffeehouse chain to coerce Shultz, who is still its largest shareholder, into dropping his bid.

Several Democratic leaders pointed out that a Schultz campaign could help re-elect President Donald Trump by siphoning votes away from the Democratic candidate.

Oil Prices Edge Higher
An unexpected rise in USA crude inventories reported the day before eclipsed possible US sanctions on the Venezuelan oil sector. Analysts said tough United States penalties on Venezuela's oil industry would be bullish for prices.

"In 2020, the great likelihood is that an independent would just split the anti-Trump vote and end up re-electing the President", Bloomberg wrote. He said Americans are exhausted of the current system and looking for a better choice.

Schultz grew up in a working class neighborhood in New York City, but made his fortune when he moved to the northwestern state of Washington in the 1980s and built Starbucks into a global coffee shop behemoth.

Julian Castro, a former top US housing official who launched a bid for the Democratic nomination earlier this month, told CNN that he was anxious an independent run by Schultz "would provide Donald Trump with his best hope of getting re-elected".

Bloomberg is right in line with the Democratic Party on some issues, such as gun control, as evidenced by his co-founding of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which later merged with Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense in America to form Everytown for Gun Safety.

"I wanna see the American people win". It's more than just sniping at a prospective opponent; word that he might invest in an independent run has many of them clearly anxious about how he'd split votes in a general election...Original Source. "Bring me your ideas".

Michael Bloomberg, another billionaire who previously considered an independent bid, released a statement criticising Mr Schultz's decision without specifically naming him.

He's also unable to read the room in another significant way: The reason Schultz is running as an independent is because he thinks the Dems have "shifted so far to the left" because they believe in insane, anti-corporate ideas such as free college, universal health care, and guaranteed jobs. After stepping down as the CEO of the chain in June a year ago, Shultz remains the owner of some 33 million shares of Starbucks directly and another 1.7 million shares indirectly.
