Ron Sachs/SIPA/NewscomOn Wednesday, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) asked President Trump to delay his State of the Union address due to security concerns stemming from the government shutdown.

The longest-ever government shutdown is a result of the bitter political divided over birder security issue as the Democrats who now enjoy majority in the House have refused to approve a legislation approving Dollars 5.7 billion in federal funding to construct a wall across the US-Mexico border.

President Donald Trump is insistent he will emerge victorious in a fight with Democratic lawmakers over funding for the border wall while his advisers have increasingly warned him of the partial government shutdown's ramifications, sources familiar with the situation tell The Daily Caller.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn't saying what she'll do if President Donald Trump insists on delivering a State of the Union address during the partial government shutdown.

"While many Democrats in the House and Senate would like to make a deal, Speaker Pelosi will not let them negotiate", Trump claimed during remarks at the Pentagon. Chris Coons of DE were organizing a bipartisan letter asking Trump to agree to the idea of reopening the government for three weeks to allow time for negotiations on border security. The impasse over the president's demand for billions for his proposed border wall, which Democrats reject, continues. Trump wants $5.7 billion to help fund a U.S. -Mexico border wall, which Democrats oppose.

There was no immediate response from the White House.

Whether the meeting is related to the shutdown was not immediately clear, however. Trump also needs the support of at least some Democrats in the Senate to pass funding legislation.

Inviting the president to give the speech is usually pro forma, and Pelosi issued the invitation in routine fashion, in consultation with the White House, several weeks ago.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to join House Financial Services Committee
Tulsi Gabbard, a lawmaker from Hawaii who says she plans to run for president in 2020, is also poised to join, the people said . She framed her appointment as a big achievement by pointing out how exclusive the House committee is - "one of just four".

On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced that it would recall 50,000 furloughed workers and put them back to work without pay by changing their status from "furloughed" to "essential" in an effort to reduce pressure from voters to end the shutdown, Bloomberg reports.

Hassett did not provide additional details about the estimates, but added that diminished spending by furloughed employees will be made up once they receive back pay after the shutdown ends, alleviating some of the damage. The White House has not yet responded.

Pelosi says the Secret Service and the Homeland Security Department are entangled in the shutdown and she's suggesting in a letter to Trump that he should address Congress another time.

Said Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., "The shutdown will eventually take us to a place where the average American is angry at and sick of all of us".

In turn, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy blasted Pelosi, asking why she would leave the country when the government is shut down.

Later this year, Congress and Trump will have to renew the government's borrowing authority or face the first federal default, which many believe would batter the economy. The White House will try again later this week, inviting a bipartisan group of lawmakers known as the Problem Solvers caucus to talks.
