  • Four killed in bombing of tourist bus near Egypt's pyramids

A roadside blast has killed three people - two Vietnamese tourists and a local tour guide - and injured 11 others on a bus near the Giza pyramids in Egypt, officials say.

This picture taken on December 28, 2018 shows the scene of an attack on a tourist bus near the Giza Pyramids outside Cairo. The pyramids are in that region.

Egypt's interior ministry said the bus was hit by an explosion from an improvised device hidden near a wall at around 1815 local time (1615 GMT).

An Egyptian tour guide also died in hospital from his wounds, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said in a government statement, as reported by AFP news agency.

CNN's Hossam Ahmed reported from Cairo and Mohammed Tawfeeq reported and wrote from Atlanta.

"No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack and it was not clear whether the vehicle had struck the bomb or whether it was launched from the side of the road", adds the Daily Mail. "It was bad, people screaming", she told Reuters, speaking at al-Haram hospital, where the injured were taken.

The white tourist bus could be seen with its windows shattered and surrounded by soot-covered debris. "I don't remember anything after".

It said that 10 were seriously injured.

The country has been under a state of emergency since April 2017, following a series of terrorist attacks against Coptic Christian churches in the Nile delta.

But Friday's attack is the first to target foreign tourists in nearly two years. "We will continue to move towards a new year of determination to root out terrorism", he wrote.
