  • Virat Kohli has defended his four-man seam attack

Australia lost 4-61 in the final session before Usman Khawaja and Tim Paine, unbeaten on 41 and eight respectively, thwarted the prospect of a more-dramatic collapse.

Australia bounced back in style in the four-match series against India to win the second Test in Perth by 146 runs.

Pat Cummins then wiped out the remaining two wickets in one over.

Pat Cummins (2-25) wrapped up the last two wickets in the space of four balls - Ishant Sharma (0) edging behind for a duck and Jasprit Bumrah (0) launching a shot high into the sky with Cummins positioning himself to take the catch.

All talks of keeping calm took a backseat on Monday when the on-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Kumar Dharmasena had to make India skipper Virat Kohli and Australia skipper Tim Paine understand the importance of playing the game rather than getting into verbal duels on the fourth morning of the second Test between India and Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

"We've got some inexperienced players in terms of Test matches played, to get a win like that against the best Test team in the world is going to give them a huge boost of confidence".

Kohli defended but the edge was taken; Vijay drove while the off-spinner slipped one through the gate. He was first baffled by Virat Kohli's captaincy decisions in the second Test and also questioned his batting in the first. 'They deserved to win.

Despite the lively and at times unpredictable wicket, Kohli said the Indians were confident they could chase down the target, but paid credit to the Australian bowlers.

WICKET! Nathan Lyon strikes, dismisses the big man Kohli for just 17 runs.

"Whatever we get is going to need to be enough ..."

'When you don't win you really don't rank your performance, and at the moment it's irrelevant because we didn't get the result we wanted.

The two skippers have been niggling each other for the past two days of the second Test in Perth and the stump mics have provided viewers with some classic content.

"I have not seen a better player".

The series now heads to Melbourne, with the famous Boxing Day Test starting on December 26 and India looking to regroup as they seek to win their first-ever Test series in Australia.

Both captains played down the on-field banter during the match, saying it never crossed the line of what was acceptable.
