He said Meng is sought for extradition by the U.S. China has lodged stern representations with the United States and Canada, urging them to immediately correct the wrongdoing and restore the personal liberty of Meng Wanzhou.

Huawei's relationship with the USA just took a turn for the worse.

USA authorities have been probing Huawei on suspicion that it may have shipped US -made products to Iran and other countries in violation of US export and sanctions laws since 2016, the Globe and Mail reported.

A spokesman for the US Justice Department in the Eastern District of NY - which Huawei said had brought the charges - declined to comment.

Justice Department spokesman Ian McLeod said Meng Wanzhou was detained in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Saturday.

McLeod says as there is a publication ban in effect and he could not provide any further details. The ban was sought by Meng, who has a bail hearing Friday, he said.

The report said existing Huawei equipment at the firm's current 3G and 4G networks would also be removed.

Huawei New Zealand deputy chief executive Andrew Bowater said regarding the developments in Britain, that BT had inherited its mobile networks that contained Huawei equipment at their core as a result of its acquisition of mobile operator EE in 2016.

Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 855 Processor for 5G Phones
That said, a number of reports have said the OnePlus 7 will include the latest Snapdragon chipset but it won't be capable of 5G. Qualcomm is expected to reveal more details about the Snapdragon 855 and its features over the next few days from the summit.

Fellow Chinese technology giant ZTE had similarly been removed from the US trading blacklist at the start of previous year by the US Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security following the company's guilty plea to illegally exporting products to Iran.

Meng's arrest, which was first reported by the Globe and Mail, comes less than two months after USA lawmakers sent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a letter urging Canada to ban Huawei's equipment from Canadian wireless networks.

In 2011, the American government stopped Huawei from purchasing USA server technology company 3Leaf's assets, for national security reasons.

The news of the arrest broke today.

American officials have talked to their counterparts in Germany, Italy, and Japan - countries where Huawei products are widely used. The Pentagon stopped offering Huawei's devices on US military bases citing security concerns. A proposal for the sale of the HP equipment to Iran contained at least 13 pages marked "Huawei confidential" and included the Huawei logo, Reuters said.

Huawei overtook Apple earlier this year to move into the No. 2 spot, according to Business Insider. Huawei also didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

American lawmakers have claimed, without evidence, that Huawei passed sensitive information collected by its equipment to the Chinese government.

Skycom at the time was a major partner of Huawei.
