Over two thousand migrants from the Central American caravan started their march to the U.S. border to seek asylum from the Benito Juárez Sport Complex turned shelter in Tijuana, Mexico, on Sunday November 25.

Torrential rains during the week reduced the old shelter to a muddy, smelly mess.

Marlen Gallegos, 48, told the Post that she was initially anxious by rumors floating around the sports complex that anyone who went to the new shelter would eventually be deported. He was with a 12-year-old boy who he took under his wing after the boy's parents left the caravan to return to Honduras.

Bathrooms were flooded and there was no toilet paper.

Meanwhile, a U.S. judge on Friday refused to immediately allow the Trump administration to enforce a ban on asylum for any immigrants who illegally cross the U.S. -Mexico border. He plans to seek asylum in the US.

Earlier this week, Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastelum said that he can not continue to fund the shelters for migrants without federal support and that the city's 1.7 million residents will face increasing taxes in the future. Mud, lice and respiratory infections were rampant in the space that holds up to 6,000 people, officials said, while many areas were filled with trash. The complex was covered with mud with the storm.

"I'm not going to break public services to solve this problem", the mayor told Fox News on Friday.

Some migrants had found work near the sports complex and were unsure about moving to a place they did not know, though it meant they would have a roof over their heads.

Tensions escalated on the southern border last weekend as the USA authorities used tear gas on hundreds of migrants who attempted to cross into California near the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

Migrants waiting in Mexico to have their asylum claims processed at the United States border are reportedly being given numbers, which are written on their arms with permanent marker.

The new shelter is a former outdoor concert venue with walls and buildings on all four sides to create a single entry and exit.

Migrants pack up their belongings at a closed temporary shelter for members of the caravan. "Those are really criminals because they're dealing with lives, they're dealing with people".

On the US side of the fence, shoppers streamed in and out of an outlet mall.

He also confirmed that he had given USA troops the green light to use "lethal force" if necessary to deal with some of the "tremendously dangerous" people in the migrant caravan, who he said have already engaged in mass violence in Mexico.

The other adults were not prosecuted because Customs and Border Protection didn't have enough information to pursue charges, including the name of the arresting officers, according to the official, who said it was a chaotic scene. A Mexican rescue team forcibly pulled him ashore and put him into an ambulance.
