Shadow chancellor John McDonnell said he did not now expect any Labour MPs to vote for Mrs May's deal, telling Talk Radio he thinks the party will "hold together".

He added: "This format would also not suitably represent either the support for Remain across the whole of the United Kingdom, or the growing public and political support - including from the SNP, the Greens, the Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and an increasing number of members of both the Labour Party and the Conservatives - for a second referendum in which the option of remaining in the European Union could be put to the people".

'The focus of myself and the government is on the vote that is taking place on Dec 11.

"I would like to once again ask for your support to avoid no deal", he said.

May has said if MPs reject the agreement it could see the world's fifth-largest economy leaving the bloc without a deal, or not leaving at all.

Theresa May has accused Labour of planning a "betrayal of the British people" by voting down her Brexit deal and pushing the country towards a no-deal departure from the EU. The Bank of England warned this week that a no-deal Brexit would plunge Britain into a severe recession. The British government issued a statement saying that the new flight, as well as annual bilateral air services discussions, was part of the recognition 'that building closer links represents a shared goal.' 'The additional air link will greatly benefit the people of the Falkland Islands and support their economic development.

Parliament will begin five days of debate on Dec 4, with the final vote due to be held on Dec 11.

The amendment, put down by a group of committee chairs, including Labour's Hilary Benn and prominent Tory Sarah Wollaston, calls for the Commons to be able to express its views about what should happen if Mrs May's deal is voted down.

More than 80 Conservative MPs have spoken out against Theresa May's Brexit deal - but only a minority have said they intend to vote against it in the Commons.

Her comments came after a cross-party group of senior MPs tabled an amendment to stop the United Kingdom leaving the European Union without a deal if Mrs May's plan fails to win the support of the Commons. The EU has made clear there is little appetite to reopen negotiations.

May's comments came after lawmakers proposed an amendment that could stop Brexit if Parliament rejects her agreement. Trade Minister Liam Fox said May's attempts to win over public support by touring the country to sell her deal was working.

Dr Fox, who insisted that Mrs May was "changing the public mood", appeared to suggest that some of his Cabinet colleagues may still vote against the PM's Brexit deal.

'Members of parliament need to make their own decisions for themselves but they have to compare this particular deal against the alternatives'.
