  • How did Tyson Fury get up?'He literally popped up like The Undertaker

Tyson Fury made a miraculous recovery from a 12th round knockdown when it looked like he was out cold to earn a draw, that should have been a win, against Deontay Wilder.

Wilder, the undefeated WBC champion retained his title after squaring off against undefeated challenger and former WBA, WBO, IBO, and unofficial lineal champion Fury, in front of nearly 18,000 people at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

But on Saturday at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Fury's mind told him 'You didn't come this far just to lay down, not even to the most risky puncher in the sport.' Fury did not just get up, he came back and rocked Wilder (40-0-1, 39 KO's) late as they battled to the end in a classic heavyweight battle before 17,698 fans, but the bout was ruled a controversial split draw.

One judge scored the bout in Wilder's favor 115-111, while the second judge scored the bout 114-110 for Fury, and the final judge scored the fight 113-113.

"We're both warriors, but with those two drops, I think I won the fight", Wilder said.

"This has been a great night for the sport, for heavyweight boxing, and heavyweight boxing in the United States", said Costello. In the post-match conference Fury said a "holy hand" helped him get back on his feet and spoke of overcoming mental health issues and fighting back from suicide. Fury managed, somehow, to return to his feet before the count ended.

Wilder, who remains unbeaten after 41 fights, immediately called for a rematch.

"When I rush my punches like that I'm never accurate".

As several former heavyweights had predicted beforehand, the longer the fight went on, the more Fury looked in control. "I don't know how he got up", the 33-year-old added.

"I've come away and I'm on away soil but what most disappointed me was the British judge".

"Bless Wilder, thank you for the opportunity D. God bless you, and god bless America". I rushed my punches. I don't know anyone on the planet that can move like that.

"I would love for it to be my next fight", Wilder said. I was too hesitant.

In front of a 17,698-strong attendance, both fighters entertained from the opening bell when they both threw threatening punches and Wilder landed a hurtful right as they briefly fought toe-to-toe. "I really wanted to get him out of there, give the fans what they want to see".

But while the scoring drew criticism, with many arguing that Fury had done enough to win, there was a marked absence of animosity after the bout.

Fury felt that he deserved to take the WBC title from Wilder following his performance, although he was exceptionally gracious following the result.

But the draw left more questions than answers for Wilder, and for the time being, the long-awaited showdown with Joshua might be tabled.
