A 16-year-old youth has been interviewed and reported for summons for an offence of assault that took place on October 25, the West Yorkshire Police Department said in a statement Wednesday.

Jamal and his family fled their war-torn town of Homs in 2016.

Video shows the boy, named Jamal, being grabbed by the neck, dragged and pinned to the ground before water is poured on his face.

Police confirmed they were investigating an attack on another member of the family.

Mr Akunjee said the extent of the bullying of both of their children had led them to consider leaving the area after being resettled there two years agi as part of a United Nations programme.

Police are to charge a 16-year-old boy with assaulting a 15-year-old boy after the video of alleged bullying was shared widely on social media.

It is alleged the refugee and his younger sister, who fled their home in the conflict-shattered city of Homs, have been targeted by bullies since settling in the United Kingdom in 2016.

-Throughout the campaign I have increased the target of the funds and I will continue to do so as I feel it is important that we raise as much money as possible for the family.

He said: "I am very concerned about the violent comments going out on social media about the bully".

"I was disappointed when I came to the United Kingdom because I was thinking my life is going to be good, my future is going to be really good if I study at school". The boy said that he was being routinely bullied at the school and he had brought this to the attention of the school administration, but no action was taken.

His sister also received extensive verbal abuse, which reportedly led her to recently attempt suicide by cutting her wrists.

His father said he did not want to give interviews to waiting media but, as they left, the teenager just said "thanks for everything" before getting into a waiting vehicle.

The video emerged on Tuesday showing a number of English boys appearing to bullying another young boy on his school grounds in Huddersfield.

More than £100,000 has been raised for a teenage Syrian refugee after a video of him being bullied at school was posted online.

After the video went viral, a crowdfunding page was set up for the victim, and around £50,000 in donations was collected in a day.

Akunjee said the family had contacted him and their local MP, Barry Sheerman, a month ago. "They think I am different, different from them" he said.

Further video of a separate incident allegedly shows the boy's sister being attacked by other pupils. Understand from council that the school have taken strong action.

The incident, which is believed to have occurred on 25 October, was shared thousands of times last night after footage surfaced.
