A summit of the world's top economies will open on Friday with leaders struggling over fallout from a US-China trade war that has roiled global markets and bracing for the kind of divisive geopolitical drama that President Donald Trump often brings to the worldwide stage.

President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping meet Saturday for some dinner diplomacy on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Argentina. The G20 nations account for 85 percent of the world's economic output and two thirds of its population.

Trump arrived in Buenos Aires for the summit late Thursday night, marking the first time he has set foot in Latin America in his almost two years in office and kicking off what promises to be a whirlwind 48-hour visit.

Navarro's presence at the dinner table alongside Trump reflects a change in plans after the White House said Navarro wouldn't join Trump's more moderate advisers like Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin for the trip to Argentina.

Before the G20 formally started, Mr Trump joined the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to sign the deal that will replace NAFTA (the North American Free Trade Agreement).

"We're working very hard".

The president has also repeatedly said that should a deal not be reached, his administration stands ready to further escalate the USA tariffs imposed on China.

"I think they want to, and I think we'd like to". I think we'd like to. "We'll see", he said.

"Many people look at us and have doubts regarding these summits and what they're good for". China calls the United States protectionist and has resisted what it views as attempts to intimidate it. "Way, way, way above my pay grade", he said.

The United States has been blocking progress at the Group of 20 summit on fixing world trade rules, fighting climate change and tackling migration, according to European officials involved in the discussions.

Trump was attacked for destroying the group's past unity on trade and climate change.

Hundreds of Tunisians take to the streets against Saudi crown prince
Prince Mohammed's current tour comes ahead of his participation in the G20 summit in Argentina, starting on Friday. The crown prince's visit to Cairo is an important step in promoting strategic relations between the two countries.

In November, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation officials gathered in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, failed to issue a joint statement for the first time ever after the United States and China delegations clashed over language addressing trade and security.

Morrison said Australia and the USA "have always been the greatest of friends".

The G20 is made up of the world's 19 biggest economies and the European Union.

EU Council President Donald Tusk called on fellow leaders to discuss "trade wars, the tragic situation in Syria and Yemen and Russian aggression in Ukraine".

US President Donald Trump's office confirmed that he "exchanged pleasantries" with the crown prince, but the US president did not appear to acknowledge Salman or Putin in front of the cameras.

Trump cited the recent incident between the Ukrainian Navy and the Russian Coast Guard as the reason, while Moscow doubted his true motives.

Trump met Friday with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a rare trilateral meeting.

Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May both raised the murder of Khashoggi during meetings with the 33-year-old prince. The Saudi foreign ministry said the prince had meetings with his French, South Korean and Mexican counterparts.

Saudi Arabia has insisted the prince had no prior knowledge of the killing.

Chinaís President Xi Jinping arrives at the venue of G20 summit conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina on November 30, 2018.

But while Trump's abrupt decision quashed concerns that the President would repeat his cozy performance alongside Putin during their last meeting in Helsinki, Finland, new allegations by the President's former longtime attorney Michael Cohen revived questions about Trump's financial ties to Russian Federation as he arrived for the global summit.
