  • Journalist Jamal Khashoggi murder: Report says body dissolved in acid, poured down the drain

"I'm unable to express my sorrow to learn about dissolving your body Jamal!".

Turkey says the Washington Post columnist, who was critical of the Saudi crown prince, was strangled and dismembered at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2 by a 15-member assassination squad. Turkish officials now believe that his remains were dissolved in acid and poured down the consulate's drain. In a message to The Associated Press on Friday, Cengiz said she has not received information from officials to confirm those reports. Saudi Arabia is a major purchaser of American weapons and the linchpin of a regional strategy focused on rolling back Iranian influence.

Though global pressure forced Saudi Arabia to admit that Khashoggi was killed at the consulate, Riyadh hasn't been able to offer any clue to what happened to his body.

"Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo spoke today with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman".

Some Trump advisers have argued that they would need indisputable evidence of Crown Prince Mohammed's involvement in Khashoggi's killing before they would punish him or the kingdom more harshly.

"We find it unacceptable that he accused President Erdogan of "playing political games", the communications director at the Turkish presidency, Fahrettin Altun, told AFP in a written statement.

The prime minister said he has not personally heard the recording Turkey provided to Saudi Arabia and allies such as the US and Britain in recent days, though he said he has been told about its contents.

According to the newspaper, just a few hours before leaving for Paris, Erdogan acknowledged the existence of a rumored audio tape allegedly documenting Khashoggi's tortures and death in the Saudi consulate in the Turkish capital of Istanbul.

Turkey says a 15-member Saudi assassination squad strangled and dismembered Khashoggi at the consulate.

Erdogan said he got the impression that Trump, Macron and Merkel were all very disturbed by the murder.

Eighteen men have been arrested in the case; however, Khashoggi's body has not been found.

"The murderers are among those 18 people".
