Eddie Jones 'just having fun' over call for England to smash Japan

  • Joe Moody's season is over after suffering an eye injury

Evans bases that view on how close England pushed the All Blacks in yesterday's test at Twickenham, losing 16-15 after having a late try disallowed by Television Match Official Marius Jonker.

In the 75th minute, with England behind by a single point, Courtney Lawes charged down TJ Perenara's box kick, with Sam Underhill claiming the loose ball and racing away to score in the corner.

Beauden Barrett's penalty saw New Zealand take the lead for the first time in the game after 60 minutes and they did not relinquish it.

In the second half Barrett's first test drop goal and another penalty hauled the All Blacks into a 16-15 lead which they held with five minutes remaining.

"I thought we played the final 20 (minutes) exceptionally well", Jones added.

Granted England did not play well, especially in the first half, but led by inspirational co-captain Farrell, they dug out a result and defended superbly.

Back then the talk was of England being the best in the world under Eddie Jones, just a year after their disastrous home World Cup, and taking on the World champions to prove just how far they'd come.

"New Zealand were forced to rely on individual creativity to get them into the right areas of the field because their tactical kicking was not up to scratch and that will be a concern".

"You have to credit the way the All Blacks fought back just before halftime". It's part of the history of the game for us as New Zealanders. You've got to be reasonably stupid if you can't work out this is going to be big.

Jones said: 'Dylan has a thumb problem so he struggled gripping the jersey of the tighthead and that caused us problems in the scrum, which is why we took him off a bit earlier than we normally would.

FAA issues airworthiness directive after Indonesia plane crash
The announcement follows analysis that Boeing has done since the crash of Lion Air flight JT610 last week into the sea off Java. Boeing says that the 737 MAX is the fastest-selling airplane in the company's history, with over 4,700 orders to date.

"One to 15 they are pretty big compared to our blokes", said the former All Blacks flanker.

That result, allied to England's 12-11 win over South Africa in their opening November worldwide, has calmed the fevered debate over Jones' future that erupted after a run of five straight defeats earlier this year.

"New Zealand have more variety in their game and sometimes they want to come through the middle, or around you or attacking space and you have to ready for whatever game plan they come up with". But we are playing at Twickenham and the players are going to experience a different style of footy.

"I was gutted when he pulled out (of the South Africa match), but it was a tiny niggle", said Youngs.

'Farrell, by now captaining the side alone, opts for touch.

"If we'd kept going for another five minutes, we maybe would've got them".

"It's the time to try things".

"England were very, very good and we showed a lot of character in a hostile environment after being 15-0 down and in the weather conditions", said All Black coach Steve Hansen. We had opportunities to win the game, we didn't take them, they did.

"Because that's what happens when you play New Zealand sometimes - you sit there and you watch and you think "they're the best team in the world, we can't compete against them".
