  • United States: At least six people injured in shooting incident at a bar in California

Thousand Oaks: A gunman barged into a large, crowded Los Angeles-area country music bar and dance hall and opened fire late Wednesday, wounding at least 11 people, the sheriff's office said.

A gunman shot and killed 11 people including a sheriff's deputy Wednesday in Southern California, using a handgun and smoke bombs at a country dance bar on "college night" and sending hundreds of panicking people toward the exits with some breaking windows to escape, authorities and witnesses said.

Thirteen people have been killed, including the gunman and a police officer, in a mass shooting at a bar in southern California. "There were people hiding in attics. It's a horrific scene in there".

Dean says around 10 other people were shot and wounded.

The fire was opened in the school Borderline Bar & Grill at about 23:20 local time (09:20 Moscow time).

Sheriff's Sgt. Ron Helus and a passing highway patrolman were responding to several 911 calls when they arrived at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks at about 11:20 p.m., the sheriff said.

Other customers scrambled to find safety in other parts of the bar.

Meet Trump's New Acting Attorney General, Matthew Whitaker
Warner said it would be a "bright" red line crossed if Whitaker fires or hampers Special Counsel Robert Mueller . But the former federal prosecutor went from being one of Trump's closest campaign advisers to an outcast.

TV footage showed SWAT teams surrounding the bar, with distraught revelers milling around and using their cell phones as lights from police cars flashed.

A man who says he was in the bar tells ABC news reports that he saw a man shoot into the crowd.

"A gentleman, who walked in through the front door, shot the girl that was right behind the counter", said Holden Harrah, who witnessed the shooting. "I don't know if she is alive", he said.

Police tell the Los Angeles Times that at least 30 shots were fired.

An unnamed witness told the newspaper that someone ran into the bar around 11:30 pm and started shooting what looked to be a black pistol.

Mr Helus was a 29-year veteran of the force with a wife and son and planned to retire in the coming year, said the sheriff, who choked back tears several times as he talked about the sergeant who was also his long-time friend.
