FAA issues airworthiness directive after Indonesia plane crash

The announcement follows analysis that Boeing has done since the crash of Lion Air flight JT610 last week into the sea off Java. It was found that on the flight that crashed in Asia this sensor was giving off incorrect data, meaning the pilots weren't flying in the right position.

Erratic speed and altitude on the plane's previous flight, from Denpasar on Bali to Jakarta, were reported and "when we opened the black box, yes indeed the technical problem was the airspeed or the speed of the plane", National Transportation Safety Committee chairman Soerjanto Tjahjono told a news conference.

"The pilots can use extra force to correct the nose down trim, but the failure condition repeats itself, so that the nose-down push begins again 10 seconds after correcting", reported The Seattle Times.

The DGCA had reviewed the performance of Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes operated by Jet Airways and SpiceJet.

An Indonesian official said the plane and pilots have been grounded while the crash is investigated. The information can be critical in preventing the plane from stalling.

Representatives of 737 MAX operators, Singapore Airlines Ltd SIAL.SI offshoot SilkAir, Garuda Indonesia GIAA.JK and Canada's WestJet Ltd WJA.TO , said they had not yet received a bulletin from Boeing.

The committee has said they were dealing with an "erroneous airspeed indication".

Binkley, a senior with an English and German double major, was from Dunwoody, a suburb of Georgia, according to the Miami Herald . Representative Ron DeSantis accusing him of being weak on crime. "No act of gun violence is acceptable", he wrote on Twitter .

Indonesia's search and rescue agency said the search effort will continue until Sunday.

Based on the preliminary data recovered from the wreckage of PK-LQP (msn 43000), the DJPU said that the aircraft's airspeed indicator malfunctioned during four flights prior to the doomed flight JT610 from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta to Pangkalpinang.

Boeing says that the 737 MAX is the fastest-selling airplane in the company's history, with over 4,700 orders to date. But the urgency of a fatal accident can trigger a flurry of such notices.

After an engine on a Southwest Airlines Co. plane fractured earlier this year over Pennsylvania, killing a passenger, CFM International Inc. issued multiple bulletins to operators of its CFM56-7B power plants. This angle between the wing and the oncoming airflow is called the "Angle of Attack" (AOA). If pilots aren't careful, they can cause severe nose-down trim settings that make it impossible to level a plane.

Investigation on the incident would be conducted by Inspector of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operation, Airport Inspector, and Aviation Safety Inspector in a bid to find out the cause and issue follow-up steps to be taken.

He said the pilot had landed the plane safely on that occasion.
