  • Saudi-Led Coalition Says It Attacked Airbase, Missile Sites in Sanaa Airport

According to the World Health Organization, almost 10,000 people have since been killed.

The Houthi-affiliated Masirah television station reported that more than 60 airstrikes were launched by the Saudi-led coalition against the Kilo16 area and other surrounding areas in Hodeidah during the past hours.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on Friday that Yemen is teetering "on a precipice", appealing to the global community to put an end to the Saudi war on the impoverished nation.

The Saudi-led military campaign has drawn criticism from the United Nations over widespread civilian casualties, and helped push Yemen to the brink of starvation.

The US and United Nations have called for a ceasefire and proposed to convene peace talks in Sweden to end Yemen's three-and-half years war.

"The worldwide community has a real opportunity to halt the senseless cycle of violence and to prevent an imminent catastrophe", Guterres said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday called for a halt to violence to pull Yemen back from the "precipice".

"If that doesn't happen, at any big club, the managers and the recruitment will find better players or players who will do that". I thought we played really well within the game and got caught with a sucker-punch of a counter-attack.

The blockage of aid shipments has threatened starvation in Yemen, warned the United Nations, as fighting between the Yemeni government, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, and Houthi rebels, reportedly backed by Iran, continues.

Geert Cappelaere, Middle East director for the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF), described "heart-breaking" scenes of emaciated children in hospitals in the main port city of Hodeidah and the capital Sanaa, both held by Houthi insurgents.

The port is the entry point for more than 70% of imports into the impoverished country.

The coalition sent reinforcements to the west coast on Tuesday for a new assault on Hodeida - a strategic port on the Red Sea - according to Yemeni military officials.

Washington, a close Saudi ally, supports coalition forces by refuelling their jets and selling them weapons. But the Houthis, who control the capital and much of northern Yemen, have so far showed few signs of weakening in the three-year-long conflict that has become a military stalemate. The rebels were using the air base to launch attacks on the kingdom with drones and missiles, the spokesman, Col.

Some rights groups estimate the toll could be five times higher.
