Video of the incident released Friday appears to show a passenger striking the driver in the face, prompting him to hit back before veering into oncoming traffic and barreling through barriers on the side of the bridge.

Police examined nearly 2,300 hours of surveillance videos along the bus route to determine the cause of the accident which gripped the nation. China's state newspaper, People's Daily, reports 15 people died in the crash. After the driver, surnamed Ran, refused to halt the bus, Liu then became enraged and struck Ran with her cell phone before the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The surveillance recording showed that at 10.03am, five minutes before the accident, the woman stood up from her seat, walked up to driver and began cursing him.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Management, the salvage work was especially hard because of the small size of the bus, the depth of the water, limited visibility and shifting currents that impeded divers.

A floating crane pulled the wreckage of the bus from the river, Wednesday evening, after it sank to a reported depth of 70 meters (230 feet) underwater. It doesn't look as if the driver had time even to hit the brakes before the bus went off the bridge.

It further claimed that the government has invoked never used before Section 7 of the RBI act. Prasanna, chief economist at ICICI Securities Primary Dealership in Mumbai .

Dashcam footage from an oncoming vehicle shows the bus veering off its lane, colliding with a auto and smashing through a bridge guardrail before plunging into the river.

The driver then took his right arm off the steering wheel as he tried to defend himself.

A police statement said a female passenger started quarrelling with the driver after she missed her stop.

The passenger and driver have been identified by their surname as 48-year-old Liu and 42-year-old Ran, both from Wanzhou, police added.
