Al-Jubeir on Saturday said six in total were dismissed. Last week, the kingdom acknowledged that the killing was "premeditated".

Riyadh denies the ruling royal family was involved and blames "rogue agents".

The foreign minister of Saudi Arabia has characterized the global outrage in response to the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi as "fairly hysterical".

He wrote columns critical of the Saudi government, including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Amid increasing worldwide demands for accountability, Trump has vowed "severe punishment" if the Saudi government was found to be involved in the killing.

Though Mattis made blunt remarks about the incident involving USA resident, he said the killing would not diminish ties with Oil-rich Saudi Arabia.

Earlier this week Merkel said that Berlin would not export arms to Saudi Arabia for now in the wake of dissident journalist Khashoggi's violent death.

"I found myself in a darkness I can not express", Ms Cengiz said of the pain she had felt since his disappearance.

"Because we are talking about a crime against a journalist, that violence against journalists has been highlighted as a key priority for the United Nations and for a number of state members".

The fiancée of slain Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi says she is not open to a White House visit after President Trump's comments on the killing.

Hatice Cengiz told Turkish TV she thought the invitation was aimed at influencing public opinion in the US.

President Donald Trump has hardened his stance on the matter in the past week, calling it the "worst cover-up in history", while at the same time emphasising Saudi Arabia's role as America's most important Arab ally and the value of United States arms sales to the country. However, while he has floated the possibility of imposing sanctions. he has also stressed the importance of the two countries' ties.

After weeks of denials, the Saudis have acknowledged that Khashoggi was killed in the consulate. But he noted that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo revoked visas of Saudis implicated in the killing of the Washington Post writer, and he said additional measures will be taken. "You have to tell", said Erdogan.

"Above all the terrible war in Yemen and the Qatar crisis should lead us to finally act in a united fashion as the European Union towards Saudi Arabia", Kneissl told Die Welt. Saudi leadership has pushed responsibility down the chain of command.

President Trump panned the shifting Saudi explanation.

But there is disagreement over how to respond.

Macron said that sales of weapons to Riyadh - France's second biggest customer after India - have "nothing to do with Khashoggi".

It has also emerged that security cameras were disabled one hour before Mr Khashoggi entered the building, reported Turkish newspaper Yenisafak. "One shouldn't mix everything up".

Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl, in an interview with a German newspaper Friday, backed the call for an European Union embargo on weapons deliveries to Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin said Russian Federation believes that the Saudi royals were not involved in the murder.
