  • Members of the defense team for Paul Manafort from left Kevin Downing Tim Wang and Thomas Zehnle depart the federal court following a hearing in the criminal case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort in Alexandria Virginia on Friday

Then, at a later date, prosecutors can file what's called a Rule 35 motion that would seek a reduced sentence to reward him for any cooperation.

Judge T.S. Ellis III ordered the hearing to set a date for Manafort to be sentenced and deal with the 10 counts on which a jury deadlocked, countering prosecutors who hoped to delay a decision on how to handle those charges until the president's former campaign chairman is done providing assistance to the special counsel's office.

His lawyer, Kevin Downing, said Manafort is suffering "significant issues" with his health at the Alexandria jail, and he requested an expedited sentencing so that Manafort could be moved from the jail. He set a February 8 sentencing date for the tax and bank fraud charges on which Manafort was convicted.

Manafort, 69, wore a dark green jail jumpsuit and never rose from his wheelchair Friday as he appeared for the first time since his August 21 conviction on bank- and tax-fraud charges. "[He] has some sort of inflammation in his right foot".

Congressman who body slammed reporter is 'my kind of guy'
Greg Gianforte's (R-Mont.) May 2017 attack on Guardian journalist Ben Jacobs during a rally in Missoula, Montana, on Thursday. President Trump blasted Democrat Senator Jon Tester for the second day in a row -this time calling him out for hypocrisy.

"Rosenstein interviews with [the Journal] where he says Mueller investigation is 'appropriate and independent.' Translation-there's time for media spin to justify Mueller probe but no time to answer questions from Congress about his statement on recording the President", Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) wrote on Twitter. On Friday, Ellis dismissed those 10 counts.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson in Washington revoked Manafort's bail in June after prosecutors said he attempted to tamper with witnesses in his case.

Legal teams for Mueller and Manafort announced that they had negotiated a plea agreement in which Manafort would plead guilty to two of the charges against him in Washington, D.C.as well as the remaining ten charges from the first trial in Virginia. Lawyers for both parties have agreed to recommend to the courts to allow the sentences for some charges to run concurrently as they deal with similar conduct. "I have not heard from the government an estimate on when cooperation will be completed".

The judge said Manafort should be treated no differently. That report will help recommend a guideline range so that Judge Ellis can determine what sentence to impose.
