NY Times throws writer Emily Bazelon 'under the bus' over Kavanaugh story

The newspaper said Tuesday that it stands by the story published a day earlier, which said Kavanaugh was questioned by police in New Haven, Connecticut, accused of throwing ice at another bar patron. Kavanaugh was nominated by President Donald Trump to fill the vacancy on the court left by retiring Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Given that Twitter remark, the White House has questioned the Times' motivation in writing the story. "She is not a newsroom reporter", the spokesperson for The Times said.

Mr Ludington told reporters: "I can unequivocally say that in denying the possibility that he ever blacked out from drinking and in downplaying the degree and frequency of his drinking, Brett has not told the truth".

Mr Kavanaugh allegedly threw ice at him.

The victim, Dom Cozzolino, "was bleeding from the right ear", according to the report obtained by the Times, and later was treated at a local hospital.

Another Yale classmate of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has challenged the truthfulness of the Supreme Court nominee's Senate testimony, saying Kavanaugh was often "belligerent and aggressive" when he drank.

Robin Campbell released his own statement to Billboard about the bar fight and the band: "Obviously, there must have been an assault because the police were called and a report was filed, but this is a case of mistaken identity and has nothing to do with UB40".

The White House did not immediately respond to requests from the Times for comment on Monday.

Some ‘care more than others’ about Man Utd crisis - Mourinho
According to The Sun , Mourinho now has just a week to show the United hierarchy that he is the right man for the job. However, Shaw said the responsibility lies with the players.

Ludington told CNN's "Cuomo Prime Time" anchor Chris Cuomo that the altercation happened after a UB40 concert, when he and a group of friends were drinking at Demery's.

Charles "Chad" Ludington, a college friend of Kavanaugh's, has related the following story about a confrontation between a person who may or may not have been the band's lead singer after a concert in 1985, according to Bloomberg News.

That tweet drew the attention of a number of critics who contended Bazelon's opposition to Kavanaugh presented a conflict of interest for The Times.

The man noticed Ludington, Kavanaugh and the others looking at him and - according to Ludington - aggressively asked them to stop. Ludington said Kavanaugh cursed in return and threw his beer at the man, triggering the fight.

"We weren't drinking water, so it must've been some sort of mixed drink", Ludington told Cuomo.

"The guy swung at Brett", Ludington said.

Dudley then took his drink and "proceeded to smash it up against the guy's head", Ludington recalled.

"I don't know what Brett was doing in the melee, but there was blood, there was glass, there was beer and there was some shouting, and the police showed up". They looked around and asked questions, he said, and then Dudley was put in a squad auto and taken to jail.
