  • Typhoon Mangkhut is forecast to pack maximum winds of 230kph by Sept 14 2018 before gradually weakening

After the passage of typhoon Barijat yesterday, which caused no damage or significant disruption to the city's daily activities, the region is already preparing for another storm - typhoon Mangkhut - one that has already been classified as a super typhoon and is now heading toward the South China coast.

Super Typhoon Mangkhut, known as Super Typhoon Ompong in the Philippines, is now equivalent to a category 5 Atlantic hurricane, with winds of at least 252 kilometers per hour (157 mph), stronger than Florence, which is expected to cause massive flooding and devastation in the Carolinas.

Food and non-food items are being prepositioned ahead of the landfall of Typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut).

Over the next two days, the typhoon will travel towards Vietnam's northern coastal provinces from Quang Ninh to Nam Dinh. He has already ordered schools and government offices to close.

The typhoon is approaching at the start of the rice and corn harvesting season in Cagayan, a major agricultural producer, and farmers were scrambling to save what they could of their crops, Mr Mamba said. It is now barreling across the Pacific Ocean with wind gusts of more than 178 mph an hour (287 kph).

Trump's China tariffs will hit our products hard: Apple
Tariffs, in theory, will make US-made products cheaper than imported ones, so encourage consumers to buy American. The National Association of Retailers immediately announced its opposition to the possibility of new tariffs.

She said seven million others are at risk in the country, with the typhoon expected to boost the intensity of seasonal monsoon rains that have already caused widespread flooding in central Luzon, a mainly farming region north of capital Manila. Government agencies were conducting damage assessments and clearing roads, according to the Pacific Daily News. The Philippines has been trying to cope with rice shortages.

Shoppers were stocking up on fruits and vegetables, as well as fish and meat, with many stores selling out their wares earlier than usual, according to the South China Morning Post.

Mangkhut is the 15th storm this year to batter the Philippines, which is hit by about 20 a year and is considered one of the world's most disaster-prone countries.

After leaving the Philippines, it is expected to blow toward Hong Kong and southern China on Sunday if it maintains its course, forecasters said. It's the rain that could be the biggest issue with latest updates on what Florence may do after making landfall looking much more concerning for a major flood event in both North and SC.

President Rodrigo Duterte and defense, interior and energy chiefs were given a briefing on emergency plans for a storm that could impact 4.3 million people, more than 800,000 of whom live in poverty.
