The No. 20 seed defeated last year's beaten finalist Madison Keys 6-2, 6-4 in the second of Thursday's semi-finals in Arthur Ashe Stadium to set up a clash with Serena Williams in Saturday's final.

As surprising as Serena Williams' easy march to the Open final became one year after blood-clot complications following childbirth, it's a real stunner the 20-year-old Osaka is still standing.

"I believe that Naomi is one of those individuals who really craves the big stage", said her coach Sascha Bajin, who used to work with Serena Williams.

Tune into the U.S. Open final match on Saturday! And if a person does match her level, because she's Serena, she will step up and she will win.

There she will face a first-timer 16 years her junior in Osaka, who grew up idolising the woman she must now try to beat.

Over the course of her career, Osaka has amassed an impressive career earnings total of more than $3.2 million (£2.4m). "I'm going to go out there and do what I can".

"I don't dream to lose", she replied. She lost her first match in three straight Open tuneups. In fact, Serena has bagled her opponents thrice in NY this year.

Serena Williams hits a return to Anastasija Sevastova in the U.S. Open semifinals on September 6. She will be seeking her 24th Grand Slam title, which would tie the modern-day record of Margaret Court, who claimed her last championship in 1973. She represents Japan on the court, but feels in many ways like she represents the best of America and its melting-pot ideals.

Serena will be playing in her 31st Grand Slam final and ninth at the US Open where she is a six-time champion.

Tennis fans will recall Williams wore the tutu after the French Open banned her from wearing her black catsuit at future tournaments. Tactics and overall craftiness, rather than pure power, dominated the women's game and had made Hingis a five-time Grand Slam champion. I wanted to see what I can do better to win matches against players that get a lot of balls back.

Welcome to Flushing Meadows, New York, for 2016's final Grand Slam - the US Open.

Speaking immediately after the match, Williams said the experience of the last 12 months had been awesome. When asked if she had any message to relay to her upcoming opponent, she giggled, "I love you".

She announced herself in NY previous year when she caused an upset to knock out defending US Open champion and world number six Angelique Kerber in the first round. So that contrast between her looks and her name makes her even more charismatic to Japanese people.
