1st session of Pakistan’s newly-elected Parliament begins; 331 members take oath

  • THE Pakistan Tehreek-i Insaf has decided to appoint Imran Ismail as governor of Sindh

Ayaz Sadiq, speaker of the previous National Assembly, presided over the 15th Parliament's session and administered oath to the new leaders in the 342-member lower house.

Modi had met the then Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif several times and also visited Pakistan in a surprise stopover on his way back from an official trip to Russian Federation in December 2015.

His tweet came after President Mamnoon Hussain summoned a session of the National Assembly on August 13 during which the newly-elected members will take oath.

Former captain of Indian cricket team Sunil Gavaskar will not be attending Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan's oath-taking ceremony on August 18 as the prime minister, reported Indian newspaper India Today.

PTI leader Jahangir Tareen Khan said on Sunday that the PML-N destroyed institutions during its tenure in the federal government and Punjab government.

Pakistan went to polls on July 25 and Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emerged as the single largest party with 116 seats.

All members will take oath as Member National Assembly.

The PTI has the support of smaller parties including Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) with seven seats, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) five, Balochistan National Party (BNP) four, Pakistan Muslim League (PML) three, Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) three, Awami Muslim League and Jamori Watan Party one seat each.
