Calls for investigation into deadly Yemen school bus attack

Declarations of outrage were followed by demands for an immediate investigation on Thursday after reports that the US -backed Saudi coalition slaughtered dozens of innocent civilians, including many children traveling on a school bus, when it bombed an area near a crowded market in Yemen.
The western-backed coalition fighting the rebel Houthi group in Yemen said the air strikes on Thursday targeted missile launchers used to attack the southern Saudi industrial city of Jizan, which killed a Yemeni civilian there, according to the state news agency SPA.
Children have been killed or wounded in an attack on a bus in northern Yemen, the International Committee of the Red Cross says.
"Under the worldwide humanitarian law, civilians must be protected during conflict", it added.
Dramatic images of wounded children, clothes and school bags smeared with blood were aired by the Al Masirah TV, reported AP.
Asked about the airstrike by the USA -backed coalition, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert told reporters "we are certainly concerned".
Saudi Arabia shot down a missile fired by the Huthis on Wednesday, with debris killing a Yemeni man and wounding 11 others, the coalition said.

The country is now in the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with more than 22.2 million people in need of assistance. Yemen's war has killed almost 10,000 people, with more than eight million Yemenis at risk of starvation.

The United Nations has repeatedly criticized the actions of the coalition.
