Mueller, Trump Lawyers Closing In On Interview Agreement

  • Trump calls Manafort prosecution ‘a hoax,’ says Sessions should stop Mueller investigation

Another source reportedly said that Trump believes the trial doesn't reflect badly on him but only shows that Manafort was is a "sleaze".

But while Trump was busy taking jabs at Mueller, the president's critics were quick to weigh in, pointing out that Trump's "order" that Mueller be fired is an obstruction of justice and belies the values that America stands for as a democracy.

It's Trump's biggest public ultimatum yet to Sessions, who infuriated Trump by recusing himself from any probes involving the 2016 election due to his public support of Trump at the time... and after he came under fire for not revealing meetings he had with the Russian ambassador.

"This is a awful situation and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further", he tweeted.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who has drawn the ire of Trump amid the investigation, said the United States should "never accept" Trump's demand for Sessions to end the probe.

Sessions recused himself from overseeing the probe, leaving Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in charge of it.

Press secretary Sarah Sanders said Trump was just expressing his opinion, not giving an order. "It's the president's opinion".

The president's message was part of a series of tweets attacking Mueller on the first full day of testimony in Manafort's tax and bank-fraud trial amid other signs Mueller's investigation is drawing closer to Trump. Trump proposed answering questions on Russian collusion in the 2016 USA election, but not on obstruction of justice.

On Tuesday, according to the Times, Mueller sent Trump's team a revised interview request in which the topics remained the same, but they agreed to allow the president to respond to certain questions in writing - if they could follow up on those answers in person if necessary.

US intelligence officials are anxious Russian Federation and perhaps other foreign actors look to interfere in November's elections, just as Moscow did in 2016, members of President Donald Trump's national security team said Thursday.

But Manafort's involvement in the Trump campaign spanned six months, and he led efforts to secure the GOP nomination for Trump in 2016.

In testimony to the U.S. Senate judiciary committee, Trump Jr. stated that he couldn't recall whether he had spoken to Agalarov about the meeting. "The president is stating his opinion, he's stating it clearly, and he's certainly expressing the frustration that he has with the level of corruption that we've seen from people like Jim Comey, Peter Strzok, Andrew McCabe", Sanders said.

Last month, Trump came under broad, bipartisan criticism for appearing to downplay the US intelligence community's assessment that Russia was behind 2016 cyberattacks, during a press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Democratic lawmakers criticized Trump for seeking an end to the probe and urged that Congress protect the investigation.

In his email, Goldstone said that the "Crown prosecutor of Russia" offered to provide the information on Clinton to the Trump campaign in a meeting with Aras Agalarov. Though experts believe obstruction by tweet is possible, prosecutors have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a particular act got in the way of an investigation and that the person who did it meant to obstruct.
