President Trump said early Thursday that he is looking forward to meeting again soon with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, despite satellite imagery that suggests the North is constructing new missiles.

The Commander-in-Chief praised Kim's decision to return the remains just hours after Vice President Pence received the war heroes at a ceremony in Hawaii; saying he appreciates the regime's "kind action".

His comments came hours after Vice President Mike Pence presided over a ceremony in the state of Hawaii marking the repatriation of the 55 sets of remains to USA soil.

She said that it was part of an "ongoing correspondence between the two leaders". Senior Trump administration officials have urged patience, cautioning that the process of denuclearizing North Korea and removing the threat of its long-range missiles will take time.

The U.S. military flew the remains from Osan Air Base in South Korea after they had undergone an initial review.

The pledge to transfer war remains was seen as a goodwill gesture by Kim at the Singapore summit, and was the most concrete agreement reached by the two sides so far.

The remains are being sent to Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency for forensic analysis in order to try to determine their identities. He was a member of the 7th Infantry Division and one of about 2,500 US soldiers assigned to the 31st Regimental Combat Team, also known as Task Force MacLean and Task Force Faith.

US intelligence agencies are seeing signs of construction of missiles at a factory that produced the country's first intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States, The Washington Post reported earlier this week, citing intel sources.

Experts say identifying the bones could take months or years.

More than 400 caskets of remains found in North Korea were returned to the United States between the 1990s and 2005, with the bodies of some 330 other Americans also accounted for, according to the DPAA.
