Two reporters each from the USA and Russian press corps asked questions of Trump and Putin following their July 16 summit in Helsinki.

Trump said at a joint press conference with Putin that he did not see any reason why Russian Federation would interfere in the 2016 presidential election, contradicting the conclusions of USA intelligence agencies.

Right after President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had their news conference in Helsinki, a writer for The Atlantic magazine highlighted a curious omission in the White House transcript.

Many members of Congress had objected to the two leaders meeting again later this year, saying Mr Putin would not be welcome on Capitol Hill. Trump has noted a range of topics he discussed with Putin, including Ukraine, but given no details of the talks.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he has personally told top Russian officials that there will be "severe consequences" for any interference in US elections or the American democratic process. "President Trump believes that two great nuclear powers should not have such a contentious relationship".

Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on June 12, where the U.S. said Kim had agreed to totally get rid of his nuclear weapons.

Only a week after downplaying Russia's interference in the 2016 USA elections, Trump tweeted Tuesday that he was "very concerned" about Russian Federation meddling in the 2018 midterms - but on behalf of the Democrats.

Trump has previously suggested that USA opposition to Russia's annexation of Crimea could be reconsidered.

There was no immediate Kremlin reaction to the postponement, which was announced just a day after the Kremlin said Mr Putin and Mr Trump had agreed in Helsinki to continue their "useful contacts".

Host Stephanie Ruhle said in response to Maddow's accusations against the White House that "we ALL deserve better than THIS".

President Trump drew sharp bipartisan criticism for his performance and for not publicly confronting Putin about Russian interference in the 2016 election.

"In concert with allies, partners, and the global community, the United States rejects Russia's attempted annexation of Crimea and pledges to maintain this policy until Ukraine's territorial integrity is restored", Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said.

He also pushed back on allegations the Trump administration has been weak or subservient to Russian Federation over Ukraine or its meddling in the election. Those indictments stemmed from Mueller's investigation, which is also looking into whether Trump's campaign cooperated with the Russian effort.
