French Gangster escapes Jail for a Second Time in a Helicopter

02 July, 2018, 10:39 | Author: Ted Wilson

The helicopter was found burnt out in Gonesse, a northeastern suburb in Paris.

France's BFM TV quotes a prison union representative saying that it was two men who burst in to search for Faid, wearing balaclavas and police arm bands.

Faid was serving 25 years in prison for a bank robbery that resulted in the death of a police officer. Faid serving 25 years for murder made an audacious escape from prison Sunday after a helicopter carrying several heavily armed commandos landed in a courtyard, freed him from a visiting room and carried him away.

A notorious gangster has escaped from prison in France in a helicopter flown by three armed accomplices, authorities have said. In 2013, he had taken four prison guards hostage before using dynamite to blow his way out of prison and fleeing in a waiting getaway auto. A third gunmen had stayed in the helicopter with the pilot, who had been taken hostage.

The manhunt is ongoing and an interior ministry official told AFP that almost 3,000 French police were recruited for the search.

When the chopper arrived, Faid was meeting with his brother in the visiting room.

A police source said the helicopter pilot was a flight instructor waiting for a student when he was seized by Faid's accomplices, before being later freed in a state of shock. Early on Sunday afternoon, police sources told news channel France 3 that he had switched vehicles and was now in a white van.

N. Korea aiming to hide ongoing nuclear production
Bartiromo asked him about the historic summit with Kim in Singapore just weeks ago, saying North Korea should be telling the U.S. North Korea has great potential for the future! "There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea", Trump tweeted.

According to AFP, Faid has "said his life of crime was inspired by American films such as "Scarface" and "Heat".

Faid was eventually recaptured six weeks later at a hotel in an industrial area on the outskirts of Paris.

He was arrested in 1998 following a global manhunt that tracked him to Switzerland and Israel.

He had been released on parole in 2009, after spending 10 years behind bars for a series of robberies.

That same year, he wrote a book describing growing up in Paris's notoriously crime-ridden suburbs and starting his life of delinquency.

Faid is not the first prisoner to escape in a helicopter.

But he was suspected of masterminding an attempted armed robbery in 2010 that led to a high-speed chase and a shootout with police in which 26-year-old policewoman Aurelie Fouquet was killed.
