Trump softens stance towards China as trade war tension eases

Trump has accused Beijing of predatory practices in an attempt to undermine the USA dominance on technology, including cyber theft and forcing US companies to turn over technology in exchange for access to China's market.
Earlier US media had reported that Trump would sign an executive order specifically targeting Chinese investors looking to acquire technology in sectors such as new-energy vehicles, robotics and aerospace.
Instead, the White House wants Congress to pass legislation to bolster the Committee on Foreign Investment in the USA, or CFIUS, so it can prevent Chinese companies from violating intellectual-property rights of American companies, two administration officials said, speaking to reporters Wednesday on the condition of anonymity. The president has threatened to impose an estimated $450 billion in tariffs on Beijing in an effort to reverse what he has labeled as bad trade deals with China.
