New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said she was blown away by well-wishes from around the world.

The name has Irish origins, and means in various forms "bright", "radiant" and "snow".

The news of the baby's birth was made public on the New Zealand leader's official Instagram account with a photo of the new parents smiling with their daughter, whose name has not been released. Jacinda Ardern and her spouse live demonstrating this is lovely to see, and may this freedom extend to more of us. Te Aroha was something we settled on quite early.

"Te Aroha. was our way of reflecting the amount of love this baby has been shown before she even arrived", she said.

"We're not placing any great expectations on this baby - except happiness and love", she said.

Ardern became her party's youngest leader and New Zealand's youngest in 150 years after defeating former Prime Minister Bill English in last October's election. Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto gave birth while she was prime minister in 1990.

Laurell Ardern said she'd had people come up to her saying that her daughter had been an inspiration, including one woman who anxious a job was too hard for her, but then thought 'Well, if Jacinda can do it, I will do it'.

English bulldog from Minnesota wins World's Ugliest Dog title
A 9-year-old English bulldog was named the victor of the 2018 World's Ugliest Dog contest in the San Francisco Bay Area. The victor takes home $1,500. "She's just so ugly, she's lovely ", Ms Brainard told the New York Times .

Ms Ardern spoke briefly to reporters today before heading home, revealing her and her partner Clarke Gayford had named their daughter Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has left hospital after giving birth to a baby girl.

"But as equally special to us were just those people who took time to send a little note, or a blanket or a set of booties", Ms Ardern said.

Ms Ardern, who described herself as doing well but being "sleep-deprived", plans to take six weeks off work before Mr Gayford takes on the bulk of the parenting duties.

We all divide our time, choose between ambitions and obligations, creative joys, family-time and workplace climbs.

Arden is the first elected world leader to take maternity leave, handing over the reigns to Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters for six weeks, and only the second to have a child while in office - both roles she has spent months downplaying.

"So I hope for little girls and boys that actually there's a future where they can make choices about how they raise their family and what kind of career they have that are based on what they want and what makes them happy", she said.
