Andy Murray long-awaited return to competitive tennis ended in 6-2, 6-7 (4), 5-7 defeat to Nick Kyrgios at the Fever-Tree Championships on Tuesday.
It will be 342 days since Murray last took to court in a competitive match, a Wimbledon quarter-final loss to Sam Querrey, and Australian Kyrgios is excited to be the man playing him.
Kyrgios, who also looked to be struggling with injury, beat Murray for the first time in six attempts.
The Tennis Integrity Unit said Kicker can reduce his ban to three years if he "commits no further breaches".
Sidelined by a serious hip issue since losing in the Wimbledon quarterfinals last summer, Murray made a quick start in his comeback match.
Edmund said: "For someone to be out almost a year, it's always good to see him back, but especially someone like Andy who obviously in British tennis is huge". "I certainly could have done some stuff better, at the beginning of the second set I thought my level at times was good; sometimes not so good".
"We kept in touch a little bit". I'm really happy that I got on the match court and played [against Kyrgios]. I wouldn't rule out not playing a tournament next week and trying to get matches in an exhibition tournament, as well, to get ready for Wimbledon.
"It's frustrating not to be able to execute things I was doing so well in the past".

Apart from the colourful lines it is hard to tell where the hell you are most of the time which is the part that I dislike.
Britain's Andy Murray will be returning to action after his hip injury.
He said: "When you've not played for such a long time, naturally you're going to have doubts, and you don't know exactly how you'll feel until you start competing and playing matches again". I enjoy watching him. "I asked if he is was okay at the end of the match and he was", Kyrgios said.
Edmund also welcomed the return of Murray following his long absence from the game. At the end of my match (against Kyrgios), I was certainly exhausted, but it wasn't like I was completely off my feet and didn't feel like I could move anymore and stuff.
Previously, I would probably have done the one session with my physio and that's it but I need to do a little bit more now to look after my body.
Watched by wife Kim and mum Judy, Murray was given a rousing reception as he walked onto the court and responded with a bashful wave to the crowd.
"I have very high expectations", he said.
Although the two-time Wimbledon champion, whose ranking has plummeted to 156, showed signs of rust in his shot-making and movement at times, he was generally encouraged by his gutsy display.
Kyrgios lost to world No.1 Roger Federer in a tight semi-final at the Stuttgart Open last week.
