  • Oliver Luck says XFL players will stand for the national anthem

He said he wants to deliver great football, which he said has been "one of the failings of the original league". Since his retirement he's held a number of sports executive posts, most recently as the NCAA's executive vice president for regulatory affairs. He also served as athletic director of West Virginia University, and as president and general manager of the Houston Dynamo of the MLS. "It's been an incredible experience for me to work with some of the best administrators, faculty, coaches, staff, student-athletes, fans, media and alumni in the nation".

The father of Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is no stranger to the sport or startup football leagues.

The league is set to start in later January 2020.

McMahon, the XFL's founder and chairman, confirmed Luck's hiring in a Tuesday, June 5 news release. In 2001, the XFL debuted to big ratings on NBC before viewership fell off sharply and the league folded after one season.

Pompeo: North Korea Talks Are On the Right Track
Last week, Trump said it was possible a meeting could still take place but warned North Korea against committing "foolish" acts. Experts agree that a meeting between Kim and Trump would legitimize a pariah nation and grant North Korea a long-term wish.

"The XFL will be a labor of love as I get to combine my experiences as a player and executive", Luck told ESPN in an email.

"Oliver Luck has been a key member of my leadership team and he has done a superb job at the NCAA over the last three years", NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a statement provided to the Associated Press. "His vision and insight have been invaluable to our schools and the national office".

The XFL plans to have eight league-owned teams, 40-man rosters and a 10-week regular season during the NFL's offseason.

The XFL will embrace the latest on and off-field technology, providing live game coverage, content and real-time engagement across multiple platforms, giving fans greater access than ever before.
