Assad reiterated that Syria does not have any chemical weapons and is not going to use them against its own people "because the battle in Syria was about winning the hearts of the civilians, this is the main battle, and we won it". According to USA military and Iraqi officials, the Syrian government helped fuel the insurgency by aiding the passage of hundreds of foreign fighters across the Syrian border. If we abandon the Kurds we will look like very unreliable allies and will be effectively stabbing them in the back after they were one of our most dependable and fierce partners in the war against ISIS. Iraq is no exception, and Syria is no exception.

Trump used the language to describe the Syrian President after his alleged involvement in a toxic gas attack last month.

'Fortunately, it has been avoided, not by the wisdom of the American leadership, but by the wisdom of the Russian leadership'.

Southern Syria is of concern to the United States, which a year ago brokered a "de-escalation" deal with Jordan and Russian Federation that has largely contained the war near the frontier with Israel.

Mr Assad said that the government "has started now opening doors of negotiations" with the SDF, a Kurdish-dominated militia alliance that controls parts of northern and eastern Syria where USA forces are stationed.

It was not the first time that Assad has threatened to attack US troops, but it was his most explicit expression yet of his determination to rid Syria of American forces.

Assad said Israeli strikes destroyed a "big part" of Syrian air defenses, but added they have been rebuilt, "stronger than before, thanks to Russian support".

In the last week, he said several military convoys had left government-held parts of Deraa city heading north, saying he believed these to be Iran-backed forces being evacuated from the region. Iran-backed Shi'ite militias, often spearheaded by Lebanon's Hezbollah, have played a critical role fighting in support of Assad. Iran's Revolutionary Guards have also deployed in the country.

Assad said Iran's presence in Syria was limited to officers assisting the army.

According to Israeli sources, Russian Federation has grown increasingly frustrated with Iran's presence in Syria and is anxious that fighting between Israel and Iran threatens its hard-fought victories. Netanyahu stated that he intends to present Israel's key concerns to the leaders of France, Britain and Germany, explaining that "we already have the experience - there have been years in which we stood alone against these threats and the situation has changed for the better". "We don't have any other options, with the Americans or without the Americans", he said.
