Fortnite vs PUBG: game giants ready for battle royale in court

It's important to remember now that regardless of how successful PUBG Corp. and Bluehole are, new battle-royal titles are appearing at a faster and faster rate.

PUBG Corp.is a subsidiary of the Korean games company Bluehole Studio.

According to The Korean Times (Bluehole are from South Korea) one of the main complaints is that Fortnite did not originally launch with a Battle Royale mode and only added it once PUBG became popular. Fortnite was first released last July, but was limited to its PvE mode, Save the World, before Fortnite Battle Royale was released in September, which in turn shot to fame. Still, PUBG isn't backing down from its claims that Fortnite is a "carbon copy" of PUBG, and is continuing forward with the lawsuit.

"We filed the suit to protect our copyright", the company told the Korea Times. They must scavenge for weapons, bandages, and other gear to survive, and the last player standing wins. While many of its core concepts are indeed similar, it'd be hard to call it plagiarism.

Can the Trump-Kim Summit Be Rescheduled?
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the U.S. and North Korea should not give up, saying "nerves of steel" were required. In April, North Korea's Kim Jong-un and South Korea's Moon Jae-in held a historic summit in the "truce village" of Panmunjom.

Behind the scenes, the two companies have an existing business relationship as PUBG is built on the Unreal gaming engine, which was developed by Epic Games.

"After listening to the growing feedback from our community and reviewing the gameplay for ourselves", the developer wrote, "we are concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known". As Fortnite was indeed released in the region, the injunction was unsuccessful-that said, PUBG remains significantly more popular in Korea than Fortnite. Analysts suggest the game generates more than $200m a month.

Earlier this year, PUBG sued Netease for allegedly basing two mobile games - Rules of Survival and Knives Out - on the ideas behind PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.
