Games often get delayed to improve the final product, one of the most famous examples being The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, which was lauded as one of the best video games of all time following its eventual release.

It has nothing to do with THQ Nordic, but it does at least have an official release date... of 2021.

But fear not, it's not all quiet on the eastern front: Deep Silver will still be showing off Metro Exodus at this year's E3, including new gameplay and new environments. Both games are developed by InXile, a California-based studio founded by the industry legend Brian Fargo.

4A Games states however that the "development of Metro Exodus is progressing well", and hints at the fact that this has been a choice more due to business reasons rather than to technical issues met in the process.

Metro Exodus Delayed Into 2019; Darksiders 3 and Biomutant Release Dates Still Being Evaluated
Metro Exodus delayed to Q1 next year

Metro Exodus will make some substantial changes from its predecessors, including more side quests, the removal of the military ammunition economy system, a more open world, and a decreased focus on the titular underground metro. Expect to hear a lot more about Metro Exodus at E3 2018.

It must be noted that last month, THQ Nordic announced that it would be skipping the E3 this year to focus on the World Cup, which starts on June 14 in Russian Federation.

The delay was confirmed in THQ Nordic's financial report for the first quarter of 2018. Earth has been devastated by a nuclear war over 20 years ago in 2013 and the story continues from Metro: Last Light's "Redemption" ending.

Earlier this year, the company released Kingdom Come Deliverance via Deep Silver.
