  • EXCLUSIVE: American Christians Celebrate Historic Opening of US Embassy in Jerusalem

Jeffress responded to Romney's criticisms.

"Such a religious bigot should not be giving the prayer that opens the United States Embassy in Jerusalem", he said.

In addition to his remarks on Jews, Jeffress has referred to both Mormonism and Islam as "a heresy from the pit of Hell".

Dallas megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress will give the opening prayer Monday at the controversial opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.

In an interview with the Christian Post at the end of 2016, Jeffress declared that President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry were "on the wrong side of God on this issue" when the US chose not to veto a United Nations resolution on Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

"I imagine, Father, I communicate for each one among us once I say we thanks every single day that you've given us a president who boldly stands on the best aspect of historical past, however extra importantly stands on the best aspect of you, God, with regards to Israel", Jeffress mentioned in a blessing. He brought up comments Jeffress made about other religions in the past and said it made him a poor choice for the occasion. "The fact that I, along with tens of millions of evangelical Christians around the world, continue to espouse that belief, is neither bigoted nor newsworthy".

A shooting at the school, she said, has "actually been one of my biggest fears". "I never knew it would happen to us here". The parents recently transferred the boy from Highland High School though it was unclear why.

Jeffress told Todd Starnes of Fox News on Sunday that he was "stunned" by Romney's remarks.

He has also called Mormonism "a cult" that is not a true part of Christianity and said "you can't be saved by being a Jew", Haaretz reported.

He told host Todd Starnes: "In that prayer, I'm going to be recounting God's history of faithfulness to His people, the Israelites".

"I'm going to be thanking God for the strong leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu, who is absolutely determined to protect Israel". Jeffress, among the Religious Right leaders who lobbied hard for Trump to fulfill his campaign pledge to move the embassy, gushed that Trump is "the most faith-friendly president we've ever had".

Trump has been criticized for announcing plans to relocate the embassy and for formally recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
