Nadal breaks McEnroe's record to reach Madrid quarters

World number Rafael Nadal on Thursday eased past Argentine Diego Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 in the round of 16 of Madrid Open to storm into the quarter-final round and en route he broke John McEnroe's long-standing record in Open Era.

This time there were no mistakes from Nadal and he closed the match with a comfortable hold that pushed him inside the last eight, keeping hopes of winning the sixth title in Madrid alive.

He will play 5th seed Dominic Thiem on Friday in the last 8.
