Liverpool have reportedly been dealt a blow ahead of the Champions League final after Joe Gomez underwent surgery on an ankle injury.

Gomez picked up an ankle injury on England duty back in March but did return after a month on the sidelines to make two Premier League appearances.

Gomez played through the pain barrier against West Brom and Stoke City, but performed poorly in both games.

Everyone gets excited by these kind of games - everyone wants to be there to support the team and cheer them on to win another European Cup - and continue this great run we're in and which we have always enjoyed [in this competition].

Gomez impressed in his first two appearances for the England senior side past year, featuring in the 0-0 draws against Germany and Brazil in November, and seemed set to be included in Gareth Southgate's squad for the tournament in Russian Federation.

Macron Warns of War if Trump Dumps Iran Deal
Netanyahu said that Israel was "determined to block Iran's aggression against us even if this means a struggle". A two-part plan can help him do that - acting in part with the Europeans and in part on his own.

According to a statement released by Liverpool on Tuesday, Gomez should be ready to take part in Liverpool's pre-season preparations in July.

Klopp is also harbouring concerns over midfield duo Adam Lallana and Emre Can, while Joel Matip will not feature again this season due to long-term thigh injury.

But the 2015 signing from Charlton suffered a recurrence of the problem against the Potters and further scans showed he needed surgery, which will rule him out of the Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 26.

Lose or draw, however, and not only will Spurs be able to overtake them but so could Chelsea, who have two games remaining.
