North Korea offers to shut nuclear test site in May

During the historic inter-Korean summit last week, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in pledged to end all hostilities and work towards peace on the peninsula.

North Korea promised to close its atomic test site next month and invite USA weapons experts to the country, Seoul said Sunday, as Donald Trump expressed optimism about securing a nuclear deal in his summit with the secretive regime.

President Donald Trump will host South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the White House in late May.

Since Kim met with Moon, Trump has been steadily offering tidbits about his expected meeting with Kim - even hinting that three Americans imprisoned there could soon be freed.

Earlier on Friday, Trump said that a time and a place had been set for the meeting with Kim, although he did not provide any details.

The South Korean President is also slated to visit Pyongyang later this year, according to a statement released by his presidential office.

In March, Trump unexpectedly accepted an offer of talks from Kim after the North Korean dictator agreed to suspend nuclear and ballistic missile tests and discuss "denuclearization".

So, why not take a little victory lap? "I don't really got too much to say about it so don't even ask", he said with a smile. Later in the series, Bledsoe responded to a question about Rozier by telling reporters, "I don't know who the f-k that is".

The White House has said the first meeting ever between sitting United States and North Korean leaders could take place in the coming weeks. "We will lose confidence that if war breaks out, we can win". Trump is to push North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons.

The reduction of the troops was not a bargaining chip in Trump's talks with Kim, the NYT cited sources who informed about it as saying but rather a logical conclusion after the two Koreas entered into a peace treaty.

"Chairman Kim... said two clocks were hanging on the wall in the waiting room of the Peace House", Senior Secretary to the President for Public Communication Yoon Young-chan said at a special news conference. "Much of the reason they are staying here will be gone".

That event did not slow the North's nuclear drive, but the situation looks more upbeat this time, Hong Min, analyst at the Korea Institute for National Unification, told AFP.

North Korean time was pushed 30 minutes behind South Korean time in August 2015.
