  • Dallas Cowboys take Stanford TE Dalton Schultz with 137th overall pick

The Dallas Cowboys' all-time great informed Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and coach Jason Garrett he will retire to join the Monday Night Football crew, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per sources informed of the decision.

"We want to congratulate Jason Witten on a Hall of Fame caliber career with the Dallas Cowboys and we are thrilled to welcome him to ESPN and Monday Night Football", ESPN executive vice president for content Connor Schell said.

Witten was originally selected in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft, at No. 69 overall. During that 15-year span, Witten only missed one game: a single DNP during his rookie season. He made the Pro Bowl 11 times, and twice was named first-team Associated Press All-Pro.

Witten, who spent his entire 15-year career in Dallas, is widely considered to be one of the greatest tight ends in National Football League history. He is the Cowboys all-time leader in career receptions and career receiving yardage.

"Jason has given so much to this team, to this franchise". He once played with a broken jaw, after having to sneak rolls of coins into his trousers to make weight for the game.

In his last two seasons, Witten caught a combined 132 passes for 1,233 yards and 9 touchdowns, with most of those coming from Prescott.

Google Assistant Is Compatible With Over 5000 Smart Home Devices
Google announced new Google Assistant features for Wear OS today that bring it further in line with Assistant on phones. The new functionalities are being rolled out incrementally, so you might not see them go live on your device just yet.

Witten will call his first Cowboys game on November 5 when Dallas hosts the Tennessee Titans at AT&T Stadium.

"There's been a lot of things that have happened over the years - especially the last few months. That is certainly what I tried my best to do during my time with this organization".

"The hardest part of this decision was knowing that I would never be able to hand you that Lombardi Trophy", Witten added. "But hopefully I can play until I'm 40 like some of these other guys we're talking about". He blocked willingly and effectively, and cleared the way for four 1,000-yard rushers (DeMarco Murray did it twice in 2013 and 2014) during his 15-year career in Dallas.

Without Witten and Bryant, the Cowboys are missing their top two receivers from a year ago and essentially for the past six seasons.

Dallas tight ends now include Rico Gathers, Blake Jarwin and Geoff Swaim.

Recent news that Jason Witten was considering retirement came as a shock.
