  • Brabham BT62: 700bhp track-only hypercar revealed

The auto rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and Michelin racing tyres. The first vehicle, on display at the launch event, was finished in the green and gold colours carried by the BT19, which Brabham used to take his team's first victory in the 1966 French Grand Prix at Reims.

As for power, it could use the same naturally aspirated 5.4-liter V8 engine, though it might not be able to match the full 700 horsepower (522 kilowatts) and 492 pound-feet (667 Newton-meters) of torque of the racer.

Crafted from lightweight carbon fibre, the BT62 boasts of a power-to-weight ratio of 730 PS of power per tonne, while tipping the scales at just 972 kgs (dry).

But in an interview with Motoring, David Brabham, the son of the late Jack Brabham and head of the Brabham race team and new automotive division, said two additional variants were in the pipeline.

Ensuring the hypercar sticks to the ground is an advanced aerodynamic package that Brabham claims can over 1,200kg of downforce.

The BT62 that debuted in London on Wednesday is a track-only model limited to 70 units, the number representing 70 years since Brabham founder and namesake Jack Brabham started his racing career.

Veterinarian smuggles heroin in puppies' stomachs for drug trafficking ring: Cops
Elorez's public defender on Tuesday said he has "psychiatric issues", including depression, and "kidney problems". USA prosecutors say he sewed the packets of heroin , with a street value of $2m into the abdomens of six puppies.

When Brabham retired from racing in 1970, he also sold his shares in his company to his partner Tauranac, who sold it a year later.

That's where the auto will manufactured, with the factory operating out of Adelaide and early testing having been completed at Phillip Island.

Sir Jack Brabham competes at Outlon Park in Cheshire, England in 1965. A stuttering start at crowdfunding and getting back into racing died on the vine, but it's now reemerged as a race vehicle manufacturer. Braham insists that a long-term plan is already in place, and a product development programme underway, with the company's ultimate goal being to return to track-based competition, and in particular an entry to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The BT62 name is derived from previous Brabham designs.

Brabham Automotive says the BT62 has been "specifically designed, developed and tested to reward like no other".

Staying true to its roots, then, the BT62 is being manufactured in a 15,000sq.m facility in Adelaide, with first deliveries expected later this year.
