Incoming WH Correspondents' Chief Wants Dinner to Be 'Boring'

Michelle Wolf's White House Correspondents' Dinner monologue raised a few eyebrows - both in the audience and on social media.

Nothing can stand between the Trump family and an awkwardly liked tweet.

Talev said her "only regret is that, to some extent, those 15 minutes are now defining four hours of what was a really wonderful, unifying night". "I think she's very resourceful", she said. Williams went on to cite Wolf's humorous jabs at the press for creating the Trump "monster" and financially benefiting off the current administration. And Trump is embracing Wolf as a foil - a symbol of liberal Hollywood elitism.

She added that before her performance, a friend handed her a note that said: "Be true to yourself". After a string of "how broke is he?" jokes about Trump's dubious billions - he flies failed business class, he looked for foreign oil in Don Junior's hair - she suddenly stepped out of character. And there was comedian Kathy Griffin, who a year ago posted a controversial video of herself holding what appeared to be Trump's bloody head; she later apologized.

Wolf seemed happy about the outcome.

"Thank you!" Wolf replied. But feedback from the political left and right quickly leapt to extremes.

Fox News media analyst says the comedian's jokes were a huge embarrassment for the White House Correspondents' Association.

As host of this year's White House Correspondents' Dinner, Wolf took aim at all of Washington, including Sanders.

Reporters rushed to call Wolf's performance appalling, outrageous. He said the comedian's insults remind him of what he hears regularly from a certain resident of the White House.

I don't think I even need to say this because you just saw it.

Wolf also said that some of the criticisms of her comments, particularly about Sanders and her "appearance", were misinformed.

Opportunistic Jets Steal Game 1 From Preds
The Jets managed just two shots on the backup netminder over 18 minutes before he was pulled for an extra attacker. It's a shame this couldn't have been the Western Conference Finals since we have two great teams in action.

Wolf responded overnight on Twitter by saying "all these jokes were about her despicable behavior", not looks. There were also strong objections to her material about abortion.

"Good lord people, it was a stand-up act". MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski tweeted that Wolf's makeup joke was "deplorable". Remember Stephen Colbert's savage roasting of President George W. Bush at the Correspondents' Dinner in 2006?

In the aftermath, the question seems to be: Did Wolf go too far?

The controversy even renewed debate about the objective of the black-tie affair, where members of the press corps celebrate journalism and mingle with sources.

But in discussions on Sunday with three key board members - Talev, incoming president Olivier Knox of SiriusXM and Jonathan Karl of ABC News - several news organizations made clear that they would abandon their support next year if the comedy element isn't eliminated.

This comes at a time when there are so many important stories to tell.

We are graced with Sarah's presence tonight.

"It's a complete disgrace that there wasn't a single person on the dais that interrupted that woman as filth was coming out of her mouth", Malkin said. What were you expecting? You know, is it Sarah Sanders?

The crowd laughed, not knowing what was to come.

During the event, Taley introduced Wolf by saying, "She's not of Washington". She looks like a regular human being.

The days of the comedian hosting the event going "table by table pointing at people and making fun of them" are over, she said.
