Israel must stop the excessive use of force by its security forces along the Gaza border and must hold to account those responsible for the many deaths and injuries sustained by Palestinians in the past month, the United Nations human rights chief said on Friday.

The Health Ministry said the child was shot in the head, and was rushed to the Gaza European Hospital, where he underwent an urgent surgery, but remained in a very critical condition until he succumbed to his wounds.

A 15-year-old Palestinian boy succumbed to his wounds Saturday from IDF gunfire in the fifth straight week of protests in the Gaza Strip on Friday, bringing yesterday's death toll to four. Three Palestinians were killed and dozens were reported wounded.

Gaza Strip was shaken by seven weeks of clashes in the summer of 2014 between Israeli forces and Palestinians.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman had urged Egypt to reject the request to help repatriate the body and put pressure on Hamas to return two captive Israeli civilians and the remains of two Israeli soldiers the militant group is believed to be holding. "Israel's failure to consistently prosecute violations committed by members of its security forces, encourages them to use deadly force against their fellow unarmed human beings, even when they present no threat".

The protests come at a time of growing frustration for Palestinians as prospects for an independent Palestinian state look poor.

According to Gaza Health Ministry, the Israeli soldiers opened fire from across the border on protesters.

Israel has rejected the worldwide criticism, saying it is defending its sovereign border and accusing Gaza's Hamas leaders, who are organizing the protests, of using the crowds as cover to carry out attacks. An Israeli military spokesman declined to comment.

"The train driver tried to apply the brake but the speed of the train was such that a collision could not be averted". According to the Railway Ministry, it was an unmanned level crossing with Gate Mitra deployed there.

The Israeli army said hundreds of Palestinians rushed the border in central Gaza near the Karni Crossing during the demonstrations.

In a statement, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein said the loss of life is deplorable and a "staggering number" of injuries were caused by live ammunition.

The protests are building toward what is meant to be a climax on May 15, when Palestinians will mark the 70th anniversary of what they call the Nakba, or catastrophe - the establishment of Israel and the war surrounding its creation.

Peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians have been stalled for several years and Israeli settlements in the occupied territories have expanded.

Palestinians were seen tearing down part of that wire barrier, and some made it to the actual border fencing.

In other incidents Friday, the military said Palestinian crowds rolled burning tires, hurled rocks and flew kites with flaming objects attached with the goal of damaging the fence and other Israeli targets. Hundreds more were hit by rubber-encased steel bullets or are suffering tear gas exposure, after Israeli forces showered the area with tear gas canisters from behind their heavily fortified positions.

Amnesty's call for a global arms embargo following the country's "disproportionate response to mass demonstrations" also comes after Middle East Eye revealed that the United Kingdom had approved the export of $445m, including sniper rifles, since the 2014 Gaza war.
