David Akers Rips Cowboys as Eagles' Guest Picker at 2018 NFL Draft

This sure was beautifully symmetrical.

For a moment, it appeared the stars had aligned and tight end Dallas Goedert would realize his destiny by joining the Dallas Cowboys.

Day 2 of the NFL Draft was all about the Philadelphia Eagles' offense. Dallas found out earlier in the day that future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten was retiring.

After trading out of the first round Thursday night, the Eagles gave Indianapolis a second-round pick (No. 52) and fifth-round pick (No. 169) to get Goedert at No. 49. He'll join an Eagles front four that's already loaded with talent.

After taking Sweat at No. 130, the Eagles have to wait until No. 206.

"Seeing two tight ends taken before me was hard", said Goedert, who believes he was the top tight end in the draft.

Imagine this formation: Goedert and Ertz both split out wide to opposite sides, Jeffery in the slot, Agholor at H-Back, and then quarterback Carson Wentz and running back Jay Ajayi in the backfield. "They definitely don't think I'm a finished product, but they think that I can go up there and make an impact right away".

"He was among the players we had grouped at 32", said Roseman, referring to the last pick of the first round. "He's a guy we had our eye on". "He's a tremendous weapon we can utilize".

Spider-Man Homecoming 2
For his part, Spider-Man's Tom Holland chose a line-up comprised of Iron Man, Gamora, Star-Lord, Groot. and Spider-Man, of course. It's been an fantastic three weeks since we announced the release date of Marvel's Spider-Man, coming September 7th, 2018.

The Eagles don't ask their tight ends to pass block much, but Goedert will be asked to carry his share of the load in the run game. Exciting to have a player like this, a pick like this, that can add to our roster. If he focuses primarily on rushing the passer, he could have a long and successful career ahead of him.

Goedert was a two-time Football Subdivision All-American.

"We heard you in Philly a year ago!"

While in college, the 6-foot-4, 251-pound Sweat endured surgery to his left knee, raising some concern during the pre-draft process.

Chris Trapasso: Big-bodied matchup nightmare tight end with some in-line blocking experience.

"Guys today are route runners that can block in-line, but [receiving] is their primary job, and this kid is one of those guys". And while it might have made for a tidy story if Dallas got Dallas in Dallas, Goedert is just fine with how it worked out.

Just last week, Ertz had spoken about the complexities of learning the tight end position in the Eagles' system.
