  • Bill Cosby jurors ask ‘What is consent

Comedian Bill Cosby was convicted on Thursday of drugging and sexually assaulting a onetime friend in 2004, marking the first such conviction of a celebrity since the #MeToo movement that has brought down rich and powerful men for their treatment of women.

Cosby never denied having sexual contact with Constand, but insisted it was consensual.

The video showed the women embracing each other outside the courtroom after the 80-year-old Cosby was found guilty on all counts in his sexual assault retrial in Norristown, Pennsylvania. According to the Associated Press, Cosby could be sentenced to up to 10 years for each of the three charges, but will likely receive a shorter sentence that could nonetheless put him in prison until his death. As the Inquisitr reported in February, Cosby's 44-year-old daughter, Ensa Cosby, died from end-stage renal disease after suffering kidney failure for most of her life.

In 2017, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele - who vowed to prosecute Cosby while campaigning for office - filed his case.

Constand is one of about 50 women who have accused Cosby of sexual assault.

Government lawyers then chose to retry Cosby. She is a former administrator for the women's basketball team at Temple University, the college that Cosby attended. Cosby did not take the stand.

Even though dozens of women have come out with stories of Cosby's misconduct over the years, the previous trial against him ended with a hung jury.

She alleged that he abused her trust when he invited her to his home and offered her three blue pills to help her relax.

The primary difference between Cosby's first trial and his second was that at last summer's trial the judge in the case, O'Neill, allowed only one additional accuser to testify and support Constand's account, based on the prosecution's argument that it needed to show a common scheme or pattern to Cosby's alleged assault of Constand.
